Our gym recorded a major milestone recently, with three of our fighters stepping into the ring at a WKS Africa event—and delivering exceptional results across the board.
Rachelle Seyfferdt, known as “Russian Roundhouse Rambo”, competed in her very first K1 full-contact bout. Facing a seasoned Muay Thai pro-am champion, Rachelle demonstrated composure, technical control, and determination, securing a unanimous decision victory in an impressive debut.
Our two pro-am athletes, Thando Mahlangu (“Biggie”) and Brett Heslop (“Captain Hook”), both entered a demanding four-man eliminator Grand Prix. The stakes were high, with the winner earning a championship belt and a qualifying opportunity for the WKS World Grand Prix.
In the bantamweight division, Thando delivered a composed performance, winning his semi-final by unanimous decision. He followed this with a decisive victory in the final against an experienced K1 and MMA competitor, earning the title of African Bantamweight Champion.
Brett competed in the featherweight division and produced one of the standout moments of the evening. He secured his semi-final win with a spectacular second-round knockout against an opponent from Mauritius. Brett then went on to win a hard-fought final, becoming the African Featherweight Champion. His performance also earned him the award for Best Knockout of the Night.
From a coaching perspective, this event stands as a defining highlight for our gym. The discipline, commitment, and resilience shown by all three fighters reflect the standard we strive for, and we are incredibly proud of what they have achieved on the African stage.
